What makes Silver Star a favoured skiing destination when there are so many ski resorts in the world. According to one visitor from the United Kingdom, ‘it’s champagne snow on beer prices’.

That was some years ago now and that’s not to say that Silver Star is cheap but it’s affordable and it’s quaint.

Developed on an old mine site, Silver Star buildings are painted in bright, almost childlike colours. The effect is that it looks a bit like a toy town which is not bad considering the fun visitors have there.

Silver Star is about a half-hour drive from Vernon in the Okanagan Valley. It’s location away from the coast means that it is a haven for skiers and snowboarders looking for some powder champagne snow.

The terrain is varied from beginners to double black runs (ouch!) for downhill skiers so there’s plenty of variety to keep a keen skier on their toes so to speak. And if you are into glade skiing, there’s plenty of that too.

Silver Star is an easy mountain to ski. The road in is well kept, the runs are groomed regularly and there is enough diversity in the runs to suit every level of skier.

Cross-country skiing (nordic skiing) is big at Silver Star too. There are over 60 kilometres of groomed trails which are most often blanketed with some of the best snow anywhere in the world.

If you are going to Silver Star for the snow in 2010, you’ll be sharing the mountain with some of the best nordic skiers in the world. Both the Norwegian Nordic and Biathlon National Teams will be training at Silver Star before they head off to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games in February. Brush up on your Russian, Finnish and Greek too because the National Cross Country Teams from those countries will also be training at Silver Star prior to the Olympics in Vancouver.
