About Aspen Snowmass ski resort

What we hear most about this ski resort is that it is the preferred ski hill for lots of Hollywood celebrities. If you’re not skiing, the next best thing is ‘spot the celeb’.

Aspen Snowmass credits itself with being the equivalent of four snow holidays because there are four mountains in the resort area: Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk.

It’s a high mountain with a base elevation of 7945 feet or 2442 metres and a summit elevation of 11212 feet or 3417 metres.

There are over 5000 acres of downhill and over 90 kilometres of free x-country trails so there is plenty of skiing to be had by all.

Travelling to Aspen Snowmass ski resort

Three airports service this resort: Aspen, Eagle Country and Denver and there are litterally hundreds of flights each week into these three airports.

Try something a bit different and go by train. Amtrak has a rail service to Glenwood Springs which is connected to Aspen with ground transportation for the 40 mile trip from the station.

There is an efficient transport system for getting around the resort and moving between Snowmass Village and Aspen. There are different bus systems that you will need to negotiate and allow about an hour by bus to get from Snowmass Village to Aspen. If you love the nightlife as much as skiing, the recommendation is to stay in Aspen.

What’s special about Aspen Snowmass?

The free on-mountain concierge service caught our attention. Do they help putting on ski boots and, more importantly, taking them off at the end of a ski day? They seem to do just about everything else including making reservations, organising tickets and rentals, massages, sleigh rides and even hot air ballooning.

One thing we hear constantly from skiers who ski the States is that the service is second to none at many of the ski resorts. Aspen Snowmass is certainly one mountain that gives great service.
